Jean-Michel BASQUIAT

Jean-Michel Basquiat rose to success during the 1980s when New York graffiti street artists took over the fine art world and the new wave, hip hop, punk scene became what was happening. His spray-painted crowns and scribbled words referenced everything from his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, to political issues, pop-culture icons, and Biblical verse. Basquiat’s work aligned him with the street art of Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf, as sell as Neo-Expressionists like Julian Schnabel and David Salle.

Andy WARHOL

Andy Warhol was the leading figure in Pop Art. His silkscreens of cultural and consumer icons—including Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Campbell’s Soup Cans, made him famous. Born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, PA, he graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology. He moved to New York to pursue a career in commercial illustration, he worked for magazine such as Vogue and Glamour. In 1964, Warhol rented a studio loft in New York City that became known as The Factory. The Factory became a social centre for movie stars, models, and artists. The space was also where the influential proto-punk band, The Velvet Underground started out. During the 1980s, Warhol collaborated with younger artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Gerhard RICHTER

Gerhard Richter is among the most influential living artists.

“Pictures are the idea in visual or pictorial form. And the idea has to be legible, both in the individual picture and in the collective context.”

Richter’s latest work are abstractions, that have set record auction prices.

Jeff Koons

Jeff Koons

“I believe in advertisement and media completely. My art and my personal life are based in it. I think that the art world would probably be a tremendous reservoir for everybody involved in advertising.”
